Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a form of psychotherapeutic alternative medicine which involves stimulating the body’s energy meridians through tapping; developed by Gary Craig in the mid 1990s.
The cause of all negative emotion is a disruption in the body’s energy system. EFT works with these systems by focusing on these emotions and associated memories while tapping on specific points on the meridians. EFT has been described as a kind of psychological acupressure without needles.
EFT has been reported successful in thousands of cases covering a huge range of emotional, health and performance issues. It can be used to relieve many psychological and physical conditions, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, general stress, addictions and phobias.

An EFT session would involve working with specific emotions or memories. Firstly the client will think about a problem that is troubling them and then putting this problem on a scale with 10 being the most effecting and 1 the least.
A set-up statement will be said whilst tapping on the Karate Chop Point : "Even though I have this ‘problem’, I fully and completely accept myself." A reminder phrase will help the client stay focused with their problem and this will be repeated whilst doing the Eight Point tapping sequence.
The problem is then rated again; if the rating as decreased then the process is repeated with a revised set-up statement: “Even though I still have some of this ‘problem’ I fully and completely accept myself” until the rating as decreased to zero.
